Episode 1
2023 Summary
When I look back on the year, this would be a shift for my storm chasing forever but for good reason. As a treat to myself for my birthday and Christmas, I’m a December baby, I decided to invest into a new camera system. At least new to me, I wound up buying two Canon cinema cameras (the C100 Mark II specifically), a few lenses, and even some new microphones and lights. One of the motivations behind this was more to do with the fact that I only had one camera for everything and that wasn’t making anything better for me. Plus, I wanted to really elevate my storm chasing results so this was the only thing I sought out as a suitable starting step. As for the year itself, my storm chasing was very limited due to money. I mean, I had some but I was never able to go the extra distances I really wanted. Despite that fact, this would come to be one of my most favorite chase years since I started doing this in 2011. The sights I would see, the sounds I would hear, the places I would find myself, and so much more, would make this one unforgettable year. This also being the first year of the series, I had some extra pressure to deal with but if you read the F.A.Q of this website, you’ll see how quickly this series really evolved. I wanted to do so much to capture all of the best possible footage so that my editing would be a breeze. However, because I chase storms more solo than not, this would prove to be easier said than done. I’m really excited to bring you these in depth writings that take you further into the chase than what the episodes themselves do. One of the reasons for the writings was simple: time management. There’s often not enough time, or enough footage, or both, to tell a more full story within an episode, based on the show’s current format. Please come join me in the year’s first adventure, going all the way back to 2 March. See you there.
